LOAN INFORMATION PAGE
After you file the FAFSA, you will receive a letter prompting you to download additional documents. Once you have returned those documents to our office, and they have been processed, we will award you all of the student loan funds that you are eligible for. The Tyler Junior College Financial Aid Office offers four types of loans to help students cover educational expenses. These include:
-
Subsidized Stafford Loan - Loan for student where the interest is paid by the government while the student is consecutively enrolled at least half time (6 hrs) and repayment is postponed until after the student drops below half time status.
-
Unsubsidized Stafford Loan - Loan for students where the interest is paid by the student during their education but repayment on the principal does not begin until after the student drops below half time.
-
Parent Plus Loan - Loan for parents of dependent students who are not eligible for enough need-based aid (grants or subsidized stafford) to cover their educational expenses. - The Application for this loan must be submitted online at www.tgslc.org.
-
STATE LOANS: The Texas Be On Time Loan Program - This is a no interest loan that is to assist Texas residents who completed the Advanced High School program and graduated no earlier than the 2002-2003 academic school year. This loan cannot be awarded in addition to the Texas Grant. The loan can be forgiven if certain conditions are met: the student graduates with a "B" average or a GPA of 3.0 on a four point scale, graduates within 2 calendar years at a public or private 2 year institution (degree specific), OR graduates with a "B" average with a total number of credit hours that is no more than 6 hours beyond what is required to complete the degree or certificate. Apply for this loan through the FAFSA and if you meet all edibility criteria an acceptance letter will be sent to you.
